Girls on the Run 5k

The rain held off and this morning brought a great day for WPIG members to volunteer and run the Girls on the Run of Puget Sound 5k. Girls on the Run is an awesome organization that pairs girls ages 8-15 with adult running buddies to promote lifelong health and fitness, self esteem, and confidence. Girls on the Run has over 200 chapters in the US and Canada

Our volunteering took on two parts. Some of us served as race cheerleaders, cheering on the girls, running buddies, family and friends, and GOTR supporters and handing out stickers at mile marker 2. Another group of WPIG members ran in the event, which took place along the shores of Lake Washington in Seward Park. We’re happy to support Girls on the Run and hope to continue working with them in the future!

It was really inspiring to watch the girls complete the 5k. For many of them, it’s their biggest athletic feat so far! It was also amazing to watch how encouraging, supporting, and fun-loving the running buddies are. What a great combination.

Congratulations to all the runners and walkers from today’s event! It was an inspirational, exciting, and fun day for everyone.
