One by One 7th Anniversary Dinner

Our 2012 partner charity, One by One,  held their 7th Anniversary Dinner last week at Beneroya Hall in downtown Seattle.  WPIG was proud to host a table, as well as provide volunteers to work at the event.  It was a fantastic event and raised over $200,000 to help end fistula.

From left to right: One by One Board Member, Sarah Omega- Outreach Manager, WPIG members Ronke and Alisha, Carolyn Mabeya, Dr. Hillary Mabeya, and WPIG members Meghan and Meagan.

The guest speaker of the event was Dr. Hillary Mabeya, the founder of Gynocare Fistula Center, the first and only free-standing, year-round fistula care center in all of Kenya. Dr. Mabeya is an obstetrician/gynecologist and an experienced fistula surgeon, having completed over 2,800 repairs since his specialized training in 2002. Gynocare Fistula Center offers comprehensive care to fistula patients including critically important psychosocial counseling. Gynocare is supported by One By One and is a vital partner in Let’s End Fistula, our comprehensive fistula treatment and prevention program in Western Kenya.

We also had the honor of hearing from Sarah Omega, who is not only a fistula survivor, but is now a community leader and the Outreach Manager for One by One’s work in Western Kenya.

The WPIG table!

Hearing directly from the people who are working to end fistula was incredibly inspiring.  We are now more motivated than ever to throw an amazing event to benefit One by One and all of the women who will benefit from their services.
